AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION AND MANAGEMENT

HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Agricultural Extension and Management came into being in the year 1996/1997 session after the NBTE accreditation Team visited the College in October 1998.

Initially, the Department was only able to teach students and take them out for practical but mid- 1999, the poultry farm was established to be followed by the cane rat multiplication project, sheep and goats. Later fishery sector was added and cattle rearing and breeding.

So far, the Department has been able to use the College Teaching and Research farms to achieve practical objectives.

The students’ are adequately exposed to both theoretical and practical aspect of the programme and courses taught include: Agricultural Marketing, Research Methodology, Statistics and Field Experimentation, Extension Methods, Tree Crops, General Farm Practice etc. courses are also taken in other departments of the College.

The department has been previously inspected by the staff of National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and approval given for the running of the programme.

Competent lecturers and instructors handle the students theoretically and practically. The staff strength has increased tremendously over the years and the department has witnessed major improvements in all areas of its operation.

ACADEMIC MATTERS

A smooth running of the academic activities in the department regarding the lectures, practical and supervision of project students. Lecturers and instructors are carry out their duties as expected in area of teaching, handling practical, marking of examination script, assessing students’ seminar (pre and post data seminars), invigilation of student examination and supervision of students’ project. The department has a total number of 63 students both in HND I and II (HND I- 25 and HND II – 38). For the 2024/2025 academic session, the department matriculated twenty eight (25) students.

OBJECTIVES

The goals and objectives of the Federal College of Forestry Ibadan are:

To train technicians/technologists of agriculture, wood, environmental services and forestry-related organizations in the country;

To render technical training assistance to other African countries. The goals of the Department include the impartation of the extant body of knowledge of agricultural extension and management to students, thereby making them excellent practitioners of the discipline

It is also the goal of the department to produce scientific knowledge of agricultural extension and management, thereby expanding the frontiers of knowledge in the discipline. The adoption of communities and schools as a way of projecting skills and competencies to the larger society is another important goal of the Department.

Others include:

Progression to higher education to obtain several degrees is made easy as a result of both practical and academic experience gained

Entrepreneurial competence is acquired by the student as a result of being equipped with practical skills necessary to establish and run their own small scale business

Students will acquire competencies needed to be gainfully employed in their respective fields.

Head of Department

Oyewole Omobolanle Oluwatoyin (Mrs)

Omobolanle Oluwatoyin (Mrs) is the current Head of Department. She bagged her first degree in Environmental Biology and fisheries from Adekunle Ajasin University in the year 2006, furthered to acquire second degree from the Federal University of Technology, Akure and graduated in the year 2012. She is currently a PhD student of Ecosystem Management in University of Ibadan, Oyo.

A passionate researcher and lecturer with over 15 years of experience in Fisheries and environmental studies. An assertive presenter and teacher of undergraduate students including supervision of Higher National Diploma and Ordinary National Diploma thesis. Able to impact knowledge to audiences of all levels.

Experienced in project and team management, strategic planning and budget Management.  A committed and knowledgeable research fellow with undiluted passion for potential growth and excellence published in theoretical and experimental work.
