HISTORY OF DEPARTMENT

The Department was formally established in December, 2008 having fulfilled the requirements of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). The Department was created to fulfill the mandate of the College, viz;

Assist in planning and laying out all sizes of crop, animal and fish farms.
Employ modern techniques in rearing of different types of livestock on large scale.
Employ modern techniques in land preparation, planting, management and harvesting food and cash crops.
Assist in processing and storage of all agricultural produce.
Assist in Agricultural extension services.

The pioneer head of the Department was Mr. Olomola, Ayodele (2008-2020). He was succeeded by Mr. Osalusi, Charles Sanjo (2020-2022) followed by Mr. Olunloyo, Akinrinade Akanni (2023-2025) and now, Ms. Shaib-Rahim, Hafsoh Olajumoke. The Department had since inception graduated a lot have attained various higher degrees, gainfully employed and some who are self employed in various fields of agriculture and are successful.

Units in the Department

GOAL:

The National Diploma in Agricultural Technology is designed to produce agricultural technicians who are self – reliant, skilled and capable of adopting modern techniques in agricultural Production.

OBJECTIVES:

Establish agricultural farm enterprises in crop, animal and fish production;

Employ modern techniques in apiary, floriculture and micro-livestock (e.g. Rabbits, cane rat and snailery, quails and pigeons) production.

Employ modern techniques in the production of animal feeds.

Assist in processing, storage and marketing of agricultural produce.

Assist in pests and diseases control.

Carry out Agricultural Extension services

Carry out field survey involving land measurements and field layout.

PROFILE OF THE HEAD OF DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURAL TECHNOLOGY

Head of Department

Shaib-Rahim, Hafsoh Olajumoke

Shaib-Rahim, Hafsoh Olajumoke, a Senior Lecturer in the Department, with experience of over a decade in academia, including teaching, research, and leadership roles is an Animal Scientist. She earned a Master’s degree in Animal science from the prestigious University of Ibadan in 2011. She obtained a Bachelor of Agriculture degree from the Department of Animal Production and Health, University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB) now Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) in 2008. She attended St. Louis’ Grammar School, Mokola, Ibadan where she obtained the West African Senior School Certificate (WASSCE, 1999). She is a Registered Animal Scientist of the Nigerian Institute of Animal Science (NIAS/RAS/1266). She is a member of the Animal Science Association of Nigeria (ASAN) {Membership No; 2008/035}, Nigerian Society of Animal Production (NSAP), Commonwealth Forestry Association (CFA) Nigeria Chapter, Forestry Association of Nigeria (FAN), Organization of Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) among others.
