Computer Science

Programme Overview

The Department of Computer Science runs a National Diploma (ND) programme in two levels: ND I (first year) and ND II (second year). The programme is designed to equip students with theoretical and practical knowledge in computing, programming, cybersecurity, data analysis, hardware maintenance, and networking. It also includes a mandatory industrial attachment through the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES).

History of the Department

The Department of Computer Science was officially established in January 2023 by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). It was created to fulfill the College’s mandate of producing graduates proficient in practical and theoretical areas of computing, including programming, hardware maintenance, networking, and enterprise solutions. The department began with 10 pioneer staff members and has grown through active academic engagement and structured training programs.

OBJECTIVES:

The department aims to:

Goals and Objectives of the Programme

To instill programming proficiency in widely-used languages.

To foster analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities related to computing tasks.

To prepare students for careers in software development, networking, cybersecurity, and data analysis.

To ensure students acquire both the theoretical knowledge and practical competencies necessary for success in the IT sector.

Programme Duration

The National Diploma (ND) in Computer Science is a two-year full-time programme, structured over four semesters. It includes classroom lectures, laboratory practicals, project work, and a mandatory three-month Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) at the end of the second semester of ND I.
