HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Statistics came into being in 2022/2023 session after the NBTE accreditation Team visited the College for resource accreditation.

The students’ are adequately exposed to both theoretical and practical aspect of the programme and courses taught in statistics which include statistics, mathematics and computer courses. Our students have an advantage to study Agricultural, Forestry and Environmental courses.

The department has been inspected for resource accreditation by the staff of National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and approval given to commence the programme. The department is blessed with competent lecturers and technologists who handle the students theoretically and practically.

ACADEMIC MATTERS

A smooth running of the academic activities in the department regarding the lectures, practical and supervision of project students. Lecturers and technologists are carrying out their duties as expected in area of teaching, handling practical, marking of examination script, assessing students’ seminar (pre and post data seminars), and invigilation of student examination and supervision of students’ project.

The goals and objectives of the Federal College of Forestry Ibadan are:

MANDATE OF THE DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS

The National Diploma programme in statistics is mandated at producing assistant statistician capable of collecting data, analyzing and making inferences under supervision.

On the completion of the programme, the diplomat should be able to:

Acquire a good knowledge of basic statistics and statistical methods

Understanding the application of statistics in commercial, industrial and scientific environment

Acquire a practical skill in data collection, analysis and research environment

Understand the use of computers for various purpose

Set out statistical projects under supervisions with all the aforementioned mandate of statistics department, it is in line with the philosophy and objectives of this institution (college)

Progression to higher education to obtain several degrees is made easy as a result of both practical and academic experience gained

Entrepreneurial competence is acquired by the student as a result of being equipped with practical skills necessary to establish and run their own small scale business

Students will acquire competencies needed to be gainfully employed in their respective fields.

PROFILE OF HEAD OF DEPARTMENT

Yusuff, Adekunle Quazeem is the current Head of Department. He bagged his Master Degree (M.Sc) in Statistics from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State in 2010. He obtained his Post-graduate Diploma (PGD) in Statistics in 2005 from University of Ibadan. He obtained Higher National Diploma (HND) and National Diploma (ND) in Statistics from The Polytechnic, Ibadan in 1998 and 1995 respectively

A passionate author, researcher and lecturer with over two decades of experience in teaching statistical courses. He has published textbooks on Behavioural Statistics and Management Mathematics. He is an Associate of Chartered Institute of Public Administration and Local Government Statistics (ACPA) in 2003. He is also a registered member of Chartered Institute of Statistician of Nigeria. He is presently a Ph.D Student of Statistics specializes in Environmental and Experimental Statistics at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.
